Yto Barrama, the artist
This pic is deep because it's the same routine for these factory workers, same outfit, same thing to do everyday, waouh**deep..thus the lack of gloss in this pic
What do do? Can you imagine
Tangers..mm
Desespoir
Yto was born in 1971 in beautiful Tangier, even though she was born in an upper class family ;her father was a political figure as well as 1 journalist. Her mother also worked in non profit. Yto feels a social responsibility to showcase the struggle of her people through her work.
In particular the people whose struggle & "try 2 get out of their misery" by trying to cross Gibraltar. She explains in an interview that the wall of Gibraltar represents for its people , an emotional death, it represents another side of the world that they would never know, it represents opportunities, another life ....
I guess yeah I can't imagine being stuck in the same city for the rest of my life, we as African I know always feel the need 2 see what's out there, we are like birds who need to fly from time otherwise we emotionally are empty..
So Yto tries to depict through her melancholic pics, a Tangers that stay the same, beautiful, proud ,lonely, people who do the same thing over and over again..familiar feeling back in the days **
Anywhoo Yto is also 1 wifey and 1 mummy...go gal follow ur passion oh and she is also the director of the Tanger film library..yes she lives there as well...
Djaa my Moroccan sistas are doin' it:)
Eyee Wayee:)
