, it's the story of a friendship btw the late Monique and the author Kris Holloway a former Peace Corp Volunteer...
In the late nineties, Kris a medical student at the time goes to the village of Nampossela to assist Monique who only had 9 months of training herself...
Thus starts their journey, where Kris learns about the harsh economic, sanitary conditions of women in Mali, she's beyond impressed by the kindness, yet determination of Monique who was barely 24, who was then a forced marriage and carrying her baby on her back while she goes through the village on a daily basis to help deliver babies...
After Monique's death, in 2004 , Maxime Dembele-Monique's favourite cousin built in her honor the "Clinique Monique"which provides gynecological and obstetrical care..ect...
