MAMI WATA-HAVE U MET HER?

This is 1 for you Fafa & Elike**

This is not her ,just a representation

Ah Mami Wata my earliest memories of Mami Wata go back 2 middle school times, times when we would hear that she lost her child and that she was looking for her, the only way 2 escape would be to tie a piece of red cloth on our arm or to put a red cross on our doors...

As history has it, she is a mermaid who lived on earth and water....

I didn't know that she was known in other coutries such as
Ivoiry Coast,Togo, Nigeria,Trinidad,Zaire etcc..my lil conversation w/my gals inspired this post..

As far as the origins of the name ,mami is both an old egyptian and and ethiopian word which means wisdom and (fafa)* wata is actually 1 derivate from the egyptian and khosain word ouata which means water...interesting

So Mami Wata is believed to be an extremely striking mermaid w/beautiful long hair , and a very fair skin and it's believed she actually is a " good "godess if you allow me to say so..who bestows on his disciples wealth, material success, etc...

But....if one decides to stand against her, they usually end up in poverty misery...etc
She also is known for carriyng a snake around her , which head usually lays btw her breasts
She tends to appear to her chosen ones in consistant dreams, the more they try to ignore her ,the more persistent she gets...Those who decided to follow her are called Mamisiis ..hun interesting..and there's actually a religion centered around her (mostly in togo ), mamisis roles are to heal, protect women and children from abuse, they also have an erotic role which is to spread Mami Wata's legacy through of course sexual intercouse...in a very liberal kind of way...

Of course there are many versions, and who trully knows???
..but she's def part of our legends & history.
