Feelin a bit sick 2day*
Hey guyz Thank u for stopping by my bloggie ,I am humbled
Have so much 2 say about this movie by Senegalese Director Moussa Absa Sene, some of you may remenber him for some of his projects such as "Tableau Ferraille" ,"Madame Brouette" which I abs' loved...if you can def' try 2 see it....!!
Terranga Blues was playing in NY during the International African Film Festival at the Lincoln Center ...let me stop here and vent a minute if you allow me..lol....
MY PEOPLE WE NEED TO SUPPORT OUR AFRICAN MOVIES...
In the entire room, we may have been a total of 10 African people max, the other attendants were Caucasians, Black Americans ..ect...A lot of people missed out because the director was there 2 take questions and explain a little bit more his movie...
Terranga Blues is the story of a young man , music lover who get deported back to a Senegal who is only welcoming to people who either have degrees (and that to a certain extent we all know the drill) or people who have connections (u know ...u have to know someone who knows another somebody...lol but let's all admit that we all do it...I am not even gonna front...)
so here he comes after having 5 years abroad back in the hard reality of Dakar, with a mother who sacrificed everything for him to be able to live his dream , 2 sisters in need...Dick had no other choice but to join a childhood friend of his, in drug and arm traficking...of course there's a love story in the movie w/his encounter w/the sweet and devoted Rama played by the sensual and talented Juliette Ba....What was he to do follow this life of making fast $$ ..giving his family the life that they deserve, a beautiful house, servants, $$ and the promise of founding his own musical band....or renouncing to all of that and diving into sweet misery with Rama...
I will not spoil the end for y'all so I'll let you see it:)
After the movie was over, Mr Sene dressed all in colors tradionally responded kindly to some of our questions, he was inspired by this Senegalese youth of Dakar who chose to die in the sea instead of dying without a cent in Dakar, he was trying to understand what pushed these kids to total despair and that "ride or die " mentality...
I think that he did a great job in this piece and will def' recomend it again.
Also big up to Aladjiman from the group Daara J....Daara J is a hip hop band in Dkr that mixes tradionalism, dancehall, hip hop all together with a social message...they are the bomb...!!
I remenber being in high school and going to some of their concerts...great energy, I mean you can tell that there's such a synergie btw them ...a friendship that's healthy...those boys got it going on....I'll do a longer post about them soon...
