The Director Mahamat-Saleh Haroun (Tchad)

Daratt the movie!

Scene from the movie!

I don't believe that I've had the opportunity yet to present the work of my sistas and brothas from Tchad so it's with great excitment that I'm introducing y'all to the work of

Mr. Mahamat Saleh who directed the acclaimed prize winner of the Special Jury Prize at this year Venise movie festival.

This movie is about the emotional consequences of war on a young man whose father was killed during the politcal turmoil in Tchad. He makes it his mission to find his father's killer ;but he's surprise and discusted to find himself forming a bond w/the now humble baker that was his father's murderer.

The movie was directed by Mahamat Saleh who was a journalist during 5 years after having graduated from "le Conservatoire de Paris". Let me explain...since he couldn't find a job at the time he used that time to write without losing his passion for film. He lives in the Western world, but he makes its a point each year to recharge his batteries in his native land.

This will def' not the last you hear about him, so keep his name in mind!

Djaa les gens du Tchad sont dans le chaud aussi:)

The Beautiful Marcia Kure

Her Work

Following the Uli painting tradition

Expo of her work

I'm just discovering now( thanks to the suggestion of 1 the readers:), the talent of young contemporary Nigerian painter. Her name is Marcia Kure and she's been heating up the contemporary African world . Born in 1970 in Nigeria, she developed a liking for painting , drawing ,following the uli tradition (which uses simple forms and minimal use of colors). She obtained a B.A in painting from the University of Nigeria, moved to the United States where she's presented her work at solo or group events.

She's def' part of the New Diaspora of African Artists.

Want to know more about her, here's her webbie:

Tropical Fish...great book!!

Doreen Baingana

Hey you can be a great writter and be attractive!

D. @ a press conference!

I this book, I went to Barnes & Nobles and wanted to real local and this book attracted me right the way....+ I've never read any books by someone of that part of Africa.

It's the story of three very # sisters who fight with finding their own ways after the death of an alcoholic father, the spread of Aids in Uganda, the poverty after the Idi Amin regime, the question of whether or not 2 stay in a comfortable but boring West or going back to help an Africa that we have to re-learn (whether or not we want to admit after a long stay abroad)

Very, & I'll repeat it again very well written wonders Doreen is a poet as well. I mean her descriptions are so vivid and colorful..It's really rare for me find a writer that expresses herself so beautifuly and inocently...I loved the book couldn't put it down..

Doreen was the acclaimed prize winner of the Washington Independent Writers Fiction prize in 2004, she also received a law degree , & won the Caine Prize for African Writting.

She uses a bit of her personal life as inspiration as well as the cause of the dev' of women in her country Uganda.

She chose to live both in Uganda and the States that she calls home.

She's part of that new diaspora of women who are proud of their origins but are also smart to use what they've learned in the Western World.

Anywhoo if you wanna know more about her, here's an interview of her:

There were couple of actors that did an amazing job to me that Asian gal , the Mexican nanny and those 2 brothers played by Said Tachani and Boubker Ait El Caid...
