I think the women of Africa are most interesting my favourites are Suzanne Ouedraogo from Burkina Faso who deals with the issues surrounding women of her region especially female circumcision. Fatma Charfi from Tunisia who now lives and works in Switzerland but has won the Dak'Art Fest twice and most recently runner-up and Julie Mehrutu from Ethiopia now living and working in Soho/NYC along with Wangeshi Mutu from the Harlem Studios but the woman I am most impressed with has to be Jane Alexander, her work can easily be likened to Goya, Rodin and most of the legends of the contemporary art world. Jane lives and works in Cape Town, SA and is the head of sculpture at the University. Her work is outstanding to say the least.
