WHAT HAS OUR FAV SENEGALOMALIAN STAR AISSA MAIGA BEEN UP TO THIS SUMMER?

Miss Aissa Maiga at a Fim Festival in Paris

Love her shoes and the dark wine nail polish

Aissa Maiga looking happy at the Festival de Cannes

It's nice to see an African sista stalked by paps for once lol

Just like most of you I'm a huge fan of this talented and mysterious actress Miss Aissa Maiga, mysterious? yes because we only know what Aissa wants us to know, she's not the type of woman to open her life to others like an open book..
All that we know is that she is a mother to two kids, she left Senegal at the age of 8 years old with her father an intellectual and moved to France
In France she had a normal childhood and education, after her obtention of her bacalaureate she registered for theater as an option kinda by accident
She recalls her uncle's reaction when he found out that she was signing up for an artisitc career, he didn't know what to say just looked at her and left her bedroom, she still laughs at the memory of that event.
On canal Plus on a show called l'Autre Emoi she simply tells us in her own terms who she is, but like I said she tells us what she wants us to know because she wants to keep a little bit to herself as she says....
She says that she lives in the present, that she doesn't live in the past and that she's never been happier in her life... I really enjoyed watching this small profile/interview:)

"O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, those who are present among us and those who are absent, our young and our old, our males and our females"

My heart goes to those relatives of the 152 passengers who received the call on June 30th, heard through the media, through friends that something went wrong. I imagine that these people days started just like mine not even worrying abt seeing their wives, sisters, sons, fathers, future wives, fiances ..they probably thought that they would see them soon, probably envied them for leaving the busy life of an Imigrant in France.Probably thought that they had it good, sun playa in their home island.

O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, those who are present among us and those who are absent, our young and our old, our males and our females

Looking at these pictures of these beautiful Comorian people I'm touched by their unity in this pain that their community shared. I am touched by their faith, yesterday as I was watching the Michael Jackson Memorial a few words by Stevie Wonder touched my soul when he said that even though we may have thought we needed him , the Lord probably needed him even more.
These people didn't die in vain, these angels brought out international attention , my attention , your attention our attention on airplane security, in fact since 2004 the authorities were notified abt the Yemania Airline alarming conditions , I understand their frustration, their anger but now we know this will help save the lives of many other people in the future.

O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, those who are present among us and those who are absent, our young and our old, our males and our females

My heart goes out to the diplomat whose wife and kids perished, my heart goes out to Baya the sole 12 years old survivor who had to hold on to a piece of the airplane for 13 hours alone, if that's not internal strength and belief, my heart goes out to her, it won' t be living with the memories of the voice around her, the loss of her mother, people's attention, remenbering that she left with 152 other people and that she came back to Paris alone.
My heart goes to mothers who worked hard their entire lives for their children, and today nothing, the sweat, the laughters, the ambitions ..nothing
My heart goes out to these children who won't have the chance to experience more of life, this is the reason why we have to make each day the choice to live better....

My heart goes out to you Comores Island!

O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, those who are present among us and those who are absent, our young and our old, our males and our females

AMENITY HOME DESIGN REMINDING ME OF AFRICAN NATURE!

Placements

Love the sable colors

Sable sand, grey

Orchid color

I love the soothing feel of their modern graphics designs; the trees, the branches, the green and sable color remind me of my lovely African nature, it may not have been the goal of Nicole Chiala and Kristina de Corpo the 2 friends who started the company in 2004.
Through the years and the different events that took place in their lives they added new items , for example after they both experienced motherhood they added nursery items to the line.
The company is proud of their use of organic products and organic fabrics and dyes.
They sell bedding items, furniture, placement, mur decorative items ect...I like it a lot:)

ERITREAN SONGSTRESS MAGDA SINIT AND HER BAND!

Cute and Passsionate

As usual before I profile an artist on the blog , I always listen to their music and get a personal feel of their work and of their personality.
I like Magda , she has a cute and bubly personality, I can tell that she really wants to be heard and deliver a positive message.
She was a contestant on a British show called "Mobile Unsigned Act" even though she didn't win she delivered strong performance .
While she's been compared to Eryka Badu by some she reminds me of Chrisette Michelle, it seems like she can go on and go on and hold those high notes.
The self confessed mama's girl is making Eritrea proud , while visiting her homeland she was interviewed on Eritv and for Helm Magazine.
She is fluent in her mother's tongue Tigrinya and hope to get really involved with her community in the near future..I think she's doing that already:)
Her first album is called "Free to Fly"..def' check her out:)

IBI OLUWOLE DESIGNER AND CLOTHING STORE OWNER IN SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA!

Miss Ibi Oulwole in front of her boutique

Inside the store

No she's not paying me to profile her story here, I just love strong dedicated African women and when I fell by accident on her story I knew other Fabulafricana women would be inspired to work hard.
Ibi has been designing jewelry and clothe for a while , she didn't need to go to a store to ger her prom dress she made it herself.
Once she graduated from Santa Clara with a degree in Marketting she worked on a business plan, and later on opened her own store called Ibi Boutique.
She carries independent designers as herself such as Mison, Sindy Collection , Scoop, Kersh...
On the clothing store blog (which is updated frequently) I see that they receive new items regularly, I like their selections, classy shirts with a twist, maxi and mini dresses, jewelry, sandals and handbags..

Her marketting degree def' didn't go to waste, the sista knows how to sell her line, she host Sip n' Shop Party at IBI Boutique. The concept is quite simple you the customers can host a party and invite friends of yours in the store that you'll have to yourself , Ibi would provide snacks and drinks ect..cool idea ...

It's def' inspiring to see an African sista doing her thing:)

ANITA BLAY AKA THE COCKNBULLKID , GHANAIENEMENT YOURS!

Pretty young lady

Unconventional, edgy, sarcastic, sexy, curvy, talented...The Cocknbullkid!
Anita just does Anita:)

The 23 years old electronic pop singer is rocking the music world w/her own style
She writes and sings her own music, she's been working with MIA and Santagold producers.
The pop singer was raised btw England and Ghana she now resides in the Uk where slowly but surely she's making a name for herself.
After battling depression and dependency to medical drugs she is now focusing on her career.
When she was younger , her friends didn't understand her style and taste in music and labelled her as being "white"
She's a huge Madona and Morissey , Grace Jones fan..
Anita doesn't hold back and says what she thinks, for example she hates the comparaison to the Pussycat Dolls and Lily Allen
She also admits to being bisexual, it's really rare to hear an African sista touching on that subject in interviews..
Anyways all I know is that I like her music and her videos
Here's the cool video for her song "I'm not sorry:

SOMALI GIFTED POET, MISS WARSAN SHIRE!

"I am thankfull to Allah(swt) Alhamdulilah that i was blessed to listen to ur vocal love and torment...I've never heard words spoken so bluntly yet ironicly piercing my heart...U are a special talent Warsan..I'm a fan without question..Bless Ma'salaam...Jamal."
"Never have I seen nor heard such beauty...ur words touch me, ur beauty captures me and ur spirit shines...."
"Your are amazing, and your delivery of words sends more meaning than the actual words itself (if that makes sense) keep doing what you do!"

These are the type of messages, fans of this young Somali artistic activist and poet are leaving her on her facebook fan page...impressive:)

She lives in London where she is a student, as a social and artistic activist and poet, she's known for her strong delivery, beautiful use and play of words, sincerity, authenticity..she has the gift of being able to touch people with her words...
One of Warsan's mentor noted poet Amir Sulaiman invited her to join him on whom she toured on his tour called " Dangerous Ideas"

She's also in the process of having her first book published...I like the fact that she's giving a positive image of Islam by being simply her:)

Warsan took part into a poetry contest called the April Poetry Challenge where the contestants were asked t write for 30 days a poem each day, and I've decided to share with you the one that speaks the most to my soul, it's called :

Day twelve

baby,
this was before you were born

before the women
came home
with hair soaked in blood

before your father understood
that the weight of your mothers thigh
reminded him of an ak 47

before the bald headed women
of manakobia
fled the asylums

before someone let the prisoners free
and the virgins came back with bleeding skirts

before half brothers shot eachother
in the face

and new widows set fire to
themselves

and the mosques smelt of rape

and batteries were pushed into women
and children were pulled out

before the streets lost their names
and tribe became god

before we carried machetes in our mouths
and surnames in our pockets

baby, would you believe me
if i told you that home was beautiful?

CONGOLESE CARTOON BANA BOUL BY CARTOONIST HALLAIN PALLUKU!

Missy

Even though it's written in lingala for the most and French of course it was easy to understand and laugh while watching this cartoon..
Hallain Paluku is a noted Congolese comic writer, his work has appeared in several local comics and has been sold as BD's in the world.
Among some of his work a character stands out called Missy after Missy Elliott and just like she has curves, she's a character without a face who's searching for love and the difficulties she encouters.
Going back to Bana Boul we follow the story of two naughty young boys Bana and Boul and their adventures in school in church with characters as the sapeur, the school teacher , ect ..
He makes fun of social Congolese stigma with 'la sape" (congolese people are known to love dressing up) ect...

loves it, big up Hallain Paluku:)

SHE'S A BEAUTY EXPERT AND AN ENTREPENEUR, GIVE IT UP TO NYAKIO KAMOCHE GREICO!

Nyakio and her husband David at the launch party for her fragrance Safi

While she was preggers last year

Safi Fragrance, the packaging is great

Nyakio travel set

Kenyan coffee and sugar body scrub

I would like to thank Christine O. who stops by this blog (diaramaaa sista) and was kind enough to introduce me to the work of Kenyan American entrepeneur Nyakio Kamoche .
I think I may be the last person on earth to discover her bath and body line that she founded in 2002 after she left a great job in Hollywood as an assistant . There, she made a lot of great contacts that ended up being useful to her when she launched her line. For example she was able to sell her products at Fred Segal because she knew some of the staff.
Nyakio's mum also had an influence in her career, in fact as she was growing up her mother would always give her tips regarding skin care ect..sharing with her homemade recipes ect...

Once Nyakio was ready, she created her own business plan ,she hired a chemist and started testing products and the rest is history today..
On top of the Nyakio line she also introduced last year the Safi Fragrance line through Fred Segal

Her line carries:
  • body cream and body scrub
  • oil body
  • candles and home essence
  • perfume
  • travel set

Nyakio now a married mother of one would like to give back to her home country and eventually build a school there....wishing her the best :)

Here's her webbie: www.nyakio.com

The one I found impressive abt her line is the number of stores who carry her products, I tried searching for NY locations and man so many stores are carrying her..good job!
