Gold Theme-So much come to mind;the first person would have 2 be Salif Keita who is officially called "the Golden Voice of Africa". There's no real need to introduce him, but for some of you who may not be too familiar w/him know that's he's from Mali and he's a direct descendant of Soundiata Keita (I have to devote an entire post to this warrior) . Being that Soundiata Keita is royalty,

Salif was not allowed to sing following cast traditions. He was born of noble blood thus couldn't aspire to be a praise singer. Salif was also born an albinos, and in the malian former traditions, it was not a good sign.

However he didn't let that stop him from following his passion. In the 60's he evolved within 2 bands "Les Ambassadeurs" & "Rail Band"-it was at the time when Africa was incorporating through its music electrical guitars..a modern sound..which worked great/w Salif's voice which goes from strong like the roar of a lion and soft like a bird....

Toward the end of the 70's he starts of his everlasting solo career, he has 15 albums under his belt, too many hits to count btw "Mbiffe", "Tomorrow"
"Nous Pas Bouger", "Mandjou" this 1 makes people cry a whole lot, my older sister first , anyways she's in love w/his voice.

I've got the chance 2 see him in concert, and his voice is beautiful and powerful , watching him sing it's like he'1 w/his music..It's kinda like a call to prayer, feel me?:)

Anyways this last album "M'bemba "is very symbolic to him because it's the first time after a long career that he comes back to record in his country...

Call me ignorant of you wish but I didn't know that this problem still existed in Niger mostly from African to African...that's ridiculous.

It's important to realize that Niger is 1 the poorest country in Africa and within tribe the former negative practice of slavery is still in existence.

Can you believe ithat in 2004 there were more than 40,000 people in slavery WHAT?? I just can't believe it..

Most of the time they are born in slavery, meaning they belong to family, "masters" who mistreat , don't pay them enough that is to suppose that they even pay them.

Their "masters" take their most basic rights away from them

...mmm they're born under these conditions..and wait 1 minute it gets worst..

until not too long ago they didn't even have the right to vote...What? then comes inhuman right activist Ilguilas Welia who risks his life everyday to bring awareness on this social injustice..

He was successful w/his non profit org' TIMIDRIA to get the penal system to forbid slavery w/sentene up 2 30 years of emprisonment...okay that's on paper now the key is to have that take place in reality...mm and you know our govs in Africa.:(

Of course when somebody like Ilguias stands up against the gov, he makes very quicky great enemies. Thus goes the story in which he was accused of stealing donors $$...mm of course.

He was put in jail but the Internional and Local Media'attention to the case saved him from this ordeal...thankfully.

I had no idea that Soumia had Arabic origins , when one listens to her , the way she translates emotions on zouk beats one could believe that she was born in the french west Indies culture, but no the 30 year old young woman was born in France.

She started her career by being a chorist for a hip hop group . Music wasn't the only thing she was pursuing at the time, she also holds a bachelors degree in Communication okayyy..

She's my favorite zouk/R&B artist from France at this moment because she's very convincing in her singing, usually her lyrics talk about failed love, regrets over letting go of the wrong person, when I think of her two songs come to mind "Mes Sentiments" wonderful..it's a very popular song in which she tells the man she lost that her feelings are still the same..def' a favorite of zouk lovers. Of her latest cd "Still in love"there's another song I fell in love with called "Ton Silence" the song starts smartly w/a children toy instrumental beat ..and then goes into another story...of her refusing to let go of the man she loves once again..lol..no matter what...go girl il faut refuser deee!

Yes that's it..I know what I like about her, she's 1 great story teller..when u listen to her u embark on a journey..the end of the song has this jazzey feel to it...yes I am a fan!

Haven't had the chance 2 see this movie yet, but I've heard great reviews.

It's been co- directed by a sista from Cameroon , Florence Ayissi and her partner

Kim Longinotto.

En bref this movie shows how our patriarchal system very often unfortunately exuses mistreatment of women and children . But thankfully in this movie, 2 strong minded women have decided as state prosecutor and court president to make sure that the 4 victims presented in this movie get their revenge.

In our rural culture , cases of women beaten, or raped by husbands, cousins, uncles are very frequent and silenced unfortunately..yes supos'we have to wash our dirty laundry in the privacy of our homes, but if we keep doing that, this will keep happening and more women would be victims...so this is 1 great way to open the minds and the ears of people..

So I say congrats to Florence Ayissi.
