Alain as a child!

The author and his signature hat!

The writter and his prize winner book !

I Love It!!!...a writter, a poet and a fellow blogger...YEAH:)
Alain grew up in Congo and moved to France to study law following the wishes of his deceased mother who wanted him to become a lawyer.

After a long stay at the company "Lyonnaise des Eaux" he was offered the opportunity to work as a professor of Litterature at the University of Michigan.
A few years later, UCLA came knocking ; and the rest is history .He's now working as a professor at the Department of French & Francophone Studies..
But that was not the "happily ever after end" for our multi-talented author, he managed to writte 6 novels along his professional career.
Among those, 2 were nominated to the Prix Renaudot(the equivalent of the National Book Award).
The last one "Memoires de Porc-Epic" won the respected award, pushing him to world stardorm.

Anywhoo he has his own personal webbie and a blog (this man is no joke hun)

Abdou Diouf saluting his former mentor!

I'm so proud and happy that all these different artists are involved in this project celebrating the birth of our beloved poet-president Leopold Sedar Senghor.

This celebration took place in December 2006 at the Univesity Cheikh Anta Diop, w/such artists as Yande Codou Sene, the Senegalese rap artist Awadi and a reknown choir.
It centered around slavery and its abolition...

The French President Jaques Chirac has also invited the artists to come to France from may -june 2007.

I salute this great iniative; it's a way to educate the minds of French cittizens who seem to be so anti-immigrants ....Hopefully they'll get 2 see that they share w/us a
HISTORY THAT THEY CAN'T DENY!!

HAPPY TABASKI!

Pilgrimage to Mecca

Tabaski Day ,Muslims praying @ the Mosque

Herder among flock of sheeps

HAPPY TABASKI (AS WE CALL IT IN SENEGAL) OR EID-AL-ADHA
TO ALL MY BROTHAS & MUSLIM SISTAS!!

For those curious to know what the holiday is all about, Eid-Al-Adha is the celebration of the willigness of Abraham to sacrifice his son without questioning the Lord (Allah was testing his faith, just at the moment when Abraham was going to do it , Allah's angel came down and told Abraham to kill a sheep instead)

Anywhoo it's a major holiday in the Muslim tradition and happens right after the Hadj (The Muslim Pilgrimage to Mecca).

During that day, people usually visit their relatives or their loved ones to wish them a happy holiday, or to ask forgivness for antything they could have done to them willingly or not...

In Senegal it's a huge holiday even though it's a bit contrevorsial because the # Muslim denominations celebrate it on # days...

Anywhoo I just wanted to wish A HAPPY EID-Al Adha to my Muslim people!!

BAKRI EID like they say in South Africa
BABBAR SALLAH in Nigeria
Ciidwayneey in Somalia

HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL !
