Hey guys I hope you waved your flags yesterday during the kick off ceremony:)
I watched parts of it yesterday and I was impressed by the unity of the people in the stadium, the pride in their colors, the smiles, the joy, the excitement ..it made me want to be thereee.
I loved Angelique Kidjoe's performance of course ..you know I love her. Alicia Keys did a great job re-visiting some of her old top songs , Tinarew was true to themselves..they brought tradition to the stage..Shakira, K'Naan did awesome..I'm sure they must feel relieved by now..everybody was waiting for them...and expecting great things and they delivered :)

I also wanted to share my deepest condoleances with Mr Nelson Mandela and his family as they lost his great grand daughter yesterday to an unfortunate car accident after the kick off ceremony..R.I.P Zenani (she was just 13 years old..sad)

In other news, there are 6 African nations represented at the FIFA 2010:
-Nigeria
-Algeria
-South Africa
-Ghana
-Ivory Coast
-Cameroun

Today South Africa is playing against Mexico. Wishing them a whole lot of luck..:)
Wil keep u posted anyways!!

CAPE VERDEAN SINGER NANCY VIERIA!

Ask her and she'll tell you that she's proud to be from Africa.
Nancy was born in Mozambic and returned a few years later to Cap Vert, her parent's land .
Her childhood memories include playing outside her house with her girlfriends , singing in choir not knowing that one day she would become a professional singer.
When she moved to Portugal in her teens , she kept singing as a hobby with her friends .
It was only in 1995 that she seriously considered a musical career. She entered a local contest, won , and recorded "Nos Raca".
That record was her first hit, her people in Cap Verde and abroad embraced it and thus began her musical successful voyage.

On her latest album "Lus" she plays with local sonorities such as Funana, Morna, Batuque and mixes it with samba, bossa nova and other sounds.

LOVING THE JAZZY SOUND OF TITILAYO ADEDOKUN!

Titilayo Adedokun in the italian theatrical adaptation of Aida

Love the 50's essence

She almost was crowned miss America in 1994 (second runner up), she was Miss Ohio in 1993, she sings broadway tunes, she performs operas, she sings jazz..she..she..she. .what can't this young nigerian american woman do?
I was browsing through her website listening to her, and I I loved her sound, her music was just soothing and relaxing.
It transported into my imagination, I was just "chilling"imagining myself an early evening at a nice lounge sitting at the back and listening to her...I guess that's what good music does to u..:)
Titilayo latest album is called "A child again", this is her fourth album.
Apart from her solo effort and the other albums she worked on with other collaborators, she's also done theatrical adaptation of Aida in Italy, has performed for big broadway numbers such as "Porgie & Bess", "La Boheme" around Europe and the USA.
Def' a fabulafricana:)

LOVE YOUR ENERGY, MISS MINYESHU KIFLE!

2 Gorgeous w/her fulani braids

2 diversity within her band..and yep she's the boss lol

dance my sister

She made me smile, wanna shake my shoulders left and right, dance with her on stage..and that just looking at her videos..!!
This beautiful young Ethiopian woman who evolves in Europe is not afraid to mix traditional Ethiopan beats and language with other pieces of world music..w/her Malian guitarist and some European musicians..she represents her culture well...:)
Her background resides in her experience w/the National Theater of Ethiopia..
where she learned the art of dance and story telling through music
I really like the spirit of this young woman, I like that she goes out there in the world a little a la Angelique Kidjo and co..and show her culture freely and at the same time embrace others..
Sista will have to teach me how to do that little scream..lol
